Chests making me go broke
There are so many chests, and so few key/lockpick drops i have gotten 2 and have been playing for weeks, i spend more money on lockpicks than anything else 99.999% time the item in chest is junk can't even give away the stuff.
I always end up broke because of the high price of lockpicks, i wish the assassin class could use a skill to open chests, now i just ignore chests otherwise i won't make enough money to buy new skills.

Ummm im going to say it before someone else slams you for it, but maybe dont buy lockpicks. They are not worth the money IMO. I understand your want to open them, and hard mode spoiled us a little bit when it came to chests. I dont see it getting any better until hard mode is released for GWEN and the drops are better. I opened 10 chests at 43% retention - saved 2 lockpicks and got 9 purples and 1 gold. Yeah its bad as of right now.

welcome to the club man -- nobody buys lockpicks anymore -- unless you are hardpressed to get your treasure hunter title. But in all honesty -- if you are going for the treasure hunter title -- go to the wurm areas in NF -- buy the ancient keys for what....600 something? and add to ur title that way. At least the items are max dmg... though mostly purple.
Resist lockpicks -- perhaps HM will help with the chest ratio

Just bad luck???? I guess unfortunately I have also been wasting endless cash on picks. Just think of the unlucky points you are earning Remember you can’t win if you don’t play

Well I have a 55% chance of success, and usually when I buy lockpicks 12.5k for 10, I end up making back about 8k by the time the 10 lockpicks are used up. I never sell stuff to anyone but the merchant, rune trader, or material trader.
Although I loose money overall, I am going for treasure hunter, lucky/unlucky, and wisdom titles, so I don't see it as a loss. Right now I am at Lvl 3 treasure hunter, 3 lucky, 3 unlucky, and 3 wisdom.
BTW the perfect salvage kits pretty much nerfed the need FOR a wisdom title!

When i open a chest in GW:EN it says i have a 54% chance of retaining the lockpick. In actuality , I usually lose 7 picks when opening 9 chests.
Once again the numbers in GW do not match up with the actual results.
The game is never the same as what you originally purchased. If ANET was a car dealership, you could probably expect them to come and remove a tire from your car and then tell you that is what is supposed to be like.

I open chests all the time in GWEN and I never run out of cash unless I purchase something else. And I open every chest I bump into.

A 50% chance is not additive. It is still 50% each time you attempt it. However, your luck does suck compared to the average.
I would say for me, for every 10 chests oppened, I successfully retain around 6 lockpicks.

There is definately a disppoportionate # of grappy chests in GW:EN than you would normally get in HM. I would like to see them either change the picks to something besides lockpicks in GW:EN OR change the drop rate. I have noticed really crappy drops overall for an area that is supposed to be lvl 20 and "beyond" (their words not mine) The non max, garbage drops are ludicrous in an area like this. If you go to the end areas of each of the 3 continents (ROF Islands, Raisu and last mission areas in Cantha, Torment) you seldom get large #s of non max drops, you may not be rolling in good drops, but at least you arent getting 1/2 dozen 10-17 smiting rods. Just an observation of mine.

When you're getting non-max purples out of chests in elite dungeons (Slaver's Exile) you know there's something wrong. Seriously.

it's not bad luck -- I have yet to see a decent drop after about 50 lockpicks in gwen. Whereas it might take 2-3 lockpicks in nightfall to see a decent drop (usually less than that but I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt of only being 17-25 times worse than nightfall). (-:
Yeah - I stopped using lockpicks in GWEN...save them for other times when they actually give you something good.
GWEN's drops and chests freakin SUCK.

You're getting upset because your sample of NINE chests doesn't come to the 54% you expect given your retention rate? That sample size is called statistically insignificant. Go open one hundred or two hundred chests to get a true sample size and then look at your results.
